Walter “Woody” Hanstein

Woody Hanstein has been a lawyer for nearly 35 years.  He first worked as a Navy JAG officer in both Charleston, S.C. and at the Brunswick Naval Air Station, and then was an Assistant District Attorney in Franklin County.  Since 1987 he has been in private practice with an emphasis on criminal defense and personal injury trial work.

He currently serves on the Maine Legislature’s Criminal Law Advisory Committee and has also been appointed to sit on the Maine Supreme Courts’ Advisory Committee on Professional Responsibility.

Woody has frequently lectured fellow Maine lawyers on a variety of topics, and he also teaches law-related courses at the University of Maine at Farmington.  In his spare time he has written six mystery novels, coaches the UMF rugby team and is the director of the Titcomb Mountain Ski Patrol.
